After House Democrat leaders unexpectedly canceled session and the anticipated vote on table games legislation, as well as a vote to support four of the state’s major universities, members of the York County House Republican delegation expressed disappointment and frustration with their colleagues’ lack of concern for college students and their families, as well as their lack of commitment after failing to show up for work Thursday morning.

Legislator’s amendments would have diverted tax revenue from table games
Legislation authored by state Rep. Ron Miller (R-Springfield Township) that would have provided property tax relief from table games revenue was defeated by House Democrats in a party line vote. Miller was attempting to amend Senate Bill 711, which mandates gaming reform and introduces table games at the state’s casinos.

Several York and Adams County lawmakers gathered at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) campus in York to discuss House Bill 1416, the proposed state budget, and how it could negatively impact higher education in the Commonwealth. Lawmakers also focused on the overall budget process, basic education and the tax increases that could result from the legislation.
